The Tunisian Coast Guard was able to recover 9 human bodies washed up in the sea off the coast of Mahdia.
Mahdia court spokesman Farid Ben Jaha said, “7 of these bodies, which were in a state of decomposition, were recovered at the Chebba beach level, and two bodies were recovered at the Salqata beach level.”
Bin Jaha stated, “She was transferred to the hospital to carry out the necessary procedures and determine the identities of her owners after submitting her to genetic analysis.”
The spokesman denied that “it has been decided whether the bodies recovered belong to irregular migrants from sub-Saharan countries, according to what was promoted in some social media and media outlets.”
He stressed that “an investigative investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the death of these victims, and the investigating judge has pledged to investigate this matter.”
