The UFDG General Assembly was held on October 7 at the party headquarters in Commandayah. On the menu, the October 2 party, the start of the school year, the vagueness around the transition…

On October 2, Guineans celebrated the 65th anniversary of the country’s accession to independence. This year, the transitional authorities decided to celebrate alone in Kaloum, or at least with the army. A parade behind closed doors since the administrative center was closed to traffic and the rest of the country left practically at the mercy of citizens. Results, anarchy, traffic jams and sometimes fatal accidents. At the General Assembly of the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea on Saturday, the president of the session, Fodé Oussou Fofana, denounced a non-paying strategy: “The independence of Guinea is not reserved for an entity, but for no one could not access Kaloum, so the Guineans reacted differently. They mobilized in their own way. We deplore the fact that they were not supervised…Everyone did what they wanted, we had never seen that. October 2 is not the day of the army, but of the Guineans. Kaloum was closed, even though there were sick people and other emergencies, it was not a good idea. We must learn lessons.”

Officially, students and supervisors returned to school on October 3. But in public schools, classes are still struggling to really get started. The fault lies with parents who have not yet been able to gather all the necessary supplies, but also with a misunderstanding between the government and contract teachers. The latter are still demanding 9 months of arrears of bonuses that we owe them before taking the chalk again. Fodé Oussou Fofana places responsibility on the new authorities: “Today, children cannot go to school, parents have nothing… The Minister of Education must question himself. He has proven his inability to manage this department, he must resign… Roads can wait, but education does not wait.”

At the start of the transition, the CNRD launched consultations with different political coalitions. Political parties, the UFDG, the RPG, the UFR in particular, did not want to be involved in these meetings which they describe as a sham of dialogue. They accuse the junta of “monologuing” with its supporters. Today, even those who participated in this framework no longer see clearly in the management of the timetable. The vice-president of the UFDG calls on them to join them in putting pressure on the CNRD so that it moves: “We need to meet again, if only to make a memorandum to Colonel Doumbouya. He must tell us when the transition will end. For us, a framework for dialogue must be structured. These actors just have to come back, we will discuss so that the colonel (Mamadi Doumbouya) will tell us when and how the elections will be organized.”

Fodé Oussou also denounced the restrictions on the information site guineemation.com for almost two months now. He calls on the High Authority for Communication to take action so that this situation stops.
