The UFR rejects the decree of Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya

The decree of the president of the transition, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, now gives the power to regional governors to appoint neighborhood councils and district presidents. The decision was rejected by almost all political parties, such as the Union of Republican Forces (UFR) led by Sidya Touré.

The UFR held its general assembly on Saturday August 12, at its headquarters in Matam. Party officials denounced a hidden agenda of the CNRD (National Rally Committee for Development). Ousmane Tolo Soumah, secretary general of the youth of the UFR says that his party will never associate itself with this decision of the junta. While recalling that his political party had already opposed the appointment of neighborhood leaders and district presidents by political parties in 2017. “Our position is clear, any act that can affect social fiber, social cohesion, we’re never going to associate with it. We think that by appointing or designating neighborhood leaders and district presidents, this can lead us into conflicting situations”.

Ousmane Tolo Soumah asks Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya to be very careful with those who advise him in making such decisions. “You have not finished with the appointment of special delegations, with governors, prefects and sub-prefects, you are still coming to the base to create problems at neighborhood level. Even if the CNRD appoints the heads of families, its Machiavellian plan will never work in Guinea. Because it is decried at the base.
