MadridJune 9, 2023-. The Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) and the Ministry of Science and Innovation launch the ‘VII Edition of the Blas Cabrera Summer Classroom Program’ for introduction to research, teaching and scientific innovation, which offers a total of 80 scholarships aimed at university graduates in the 2022-2023 academic year —except for the end-of-degree project, if applicable— or have completed said studies in the 2021-2022 academic year and who accredit an average grade equal to or greater than 8 out of 10.

The objective of this initiative, which can be requested from June 12 to 30, is to reward the best university academic records and promote their introduction to the field of scientific research, through a multidisciplinary approach.

Those selected will attend the Summer Courses that the UIMP develops annually in the Cantabrian capital between August 7 and 11, 2023 at the Magdalena Palace in Santander.

Within this program, which will be directed by Diana López Barroso, a Ramón y Cajal researcher at the University of Malaga, various academic activities have been planned led by university professors, especially noted for their scientific and research activity. Likewise, the participation of the students in numerous artistic and cultural activities is foreseen.

Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy

The initiative is part of the ‘Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy 2021-2027’, which has among its objectives to enhance Spain’s ability to attract, recover and retain talent.

To achieve it, generational renewal will be favoured, among other things, by promoting scientific vocations, offering opportunities to young talents.

In addition, initiatives that promote interaction between scientists and society will be promoted, taking into account the youngest. All this with the aim of training new generations of scientific personnel who carry out their activity in academic environments.

To apply for aid, interested persons must attach exclusively electronically through the UIMP website the scholarship application form and the personal academic certification in original electronic format issued by the corresponding university stating all the subjects passed, with their credits, grades obtained and the academic year. Said certification must include the average grade of the file adapted to the standardized scale of 1 to 10.
