The UN Security Council has reached an impasse due to geopolitical differences, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced.
“The UN Security Council, the main platform for solving global problems, has reached a dead end due to geopolitical differences,” Guterres was quoted as saying by “Ria Novosti”.
According to the UN Secretary General, during the Cold War, it was possible to regulate superpower relations thanks to the effective mechanisms implemented, but now the situation is different.
“There are no such mechanisms in the modern multipolar world, the world has entered an era of chaos,” Guterres said.
“We see the consequences: dangerous and unpredictable chaos in conditions of complete impunity. Decades after nuclear disarmament, states are racing to make their nuclear arsenals faster, more secretive and more accurate. New conflicts are being developed, new weapons free from all restrictions, new methods of killing each other and eliminating humanity are being created,” the UN Secretary General expressed his concern.
