Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant discussed the need to adjust the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) operations in the hostages/” title=”Israel confirms release of 17 hostages”>Gaza Strip to prevent incidents like the strike on Hamas gunman when he killed aid workers in Gaza”>World Central Kitchen (WCK) volunteers.
As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, this is stated in a statement released by the Pentagon press service.
As follows from the document, the heads of the defense departments during a telephone conversation on Monday “discussed the need to significantly increase the supply of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.” They also addressed the IDF’s ongoing review of the attack on WCK volunteers and “discussed the need for procedural changes to prevent similar incidents from happening again.” Gallant presented his American counterpart with “details regarding the withdrawal of troops” from some areas of the Gaza Strip, as well as “the future of the Israeli campaign against” the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.
The statement notes that Austin told Galant that the United States supports “the release of the hostages without any conditions,” and also expressed hope that as a result of the ongoing negotiations, “a pause in the fighting will be achieved.” The Pentagon chief also announced the United States’ “unwavering support for Israel in the face of threats posed by Iran and its proxies.”
