The United States announced today (Monday) that it will not send diplomatic representatives to the 2022 Winter Olympics in China as part of President Joe Biden’s boycott, with US criticism of China’s handling of human rights’ in the background.
“The Biden administration will not send any diplomatic or official representation to the 2022 Beijing Olympics and Paralympic Games in light of the ongoing genocide and crimes against civilians in Xinjiang, including human rights violations,” it said. Jen Saki, White House Press Secretary.
“If we send a delegation to China, it means that the official US diplomatic mission will treat these games as ‘business as usual’ in the face of China’s human rights abuses and blatant atrocities in Xinjiang, and we just can not do that,” Saki added.
