The United States will not reduce its “pressure” on Israel and Arab leaders to reach an agreement on the hostages and a cease-fire in Gaza, said US Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris in an interview with CBS.
Washington is working with Israel on the issue of humanitarian aid and “the need to make a deal that will release the hostages and bring about a ceasefire. We will not stop in terms of putting that pressure on Israel and in the region, including on Arab leaders,” Harris noted.
Referring to the Iranian missile strike on Israel, she insisted it was “our duty to do what we can to allow Israel to defend itself against this kind of attack”.
Israel is on high alert ahead of the anniversary of the unprecedented October 7 attack by Hamas that sparked the Gaza war.
Now Israel has turned its attention north to Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed ally of Hamas in Lebanon, and has vowed to retaliate for the Iranian missile attack, NOVA said.
Last year’s attack by Palestinian militants on Israel on October 7 resulted in the deaths of 1,205 people, mostly civilians.
Israel’s retaliatory military offensive in Gaza has killed at least 41,870 people, most of them civilians, according to figures provided by the Hamas-ruled territory’s health ministry.
