The final of season 2 of the SailGP, a circuit of spectacular fleet regattas contested on flying catamarans, consecrated the Australian team for the second consecutive time, Sunday in San Francisco. Already winners in Marseille in 2019, helmsman Tom Slingsby and his crew (Jason Waterhouse, Kyle Langford, Sam Newton, Kinley Fowler and Nina Curtis) flew over the disputed final against the Americans and the Japanese in light unstable airs (5 to 12 knots). Authors of a great start by perfectly exploiting a laughingstock, the Australians quickly distanced themselves and never trembled to pocket the million dollar check promised to the winners. Note that the final was disrupted by the presence of a whale in the race area, forcing race management to give a new start.

In the end, Australia, winner of more than half of the events (5 out of 8), won season 2 ahead of Japan and the United States. They are followed by Great Britain (4th), New Zealand (5th), Denmark (6th) and Spain (7th). France, which changed coxswains during the season (Quentin Delapierre replaced Billy Besson), finished 8th and last. The 3rd season of SailGP will begin on May 14 and 15 in Bermuda. The crews will compete in nine rounds, including one in Saint-Tropez (as in 2021) on September 10 and 11. Two additional teams will participate: Canada and Switzerland.
