The Volkà Fest opens the doors to the young talent of La Garrotxa

No one knows better than young people how complicated it is to start taking the first steps in the world of work, and if we enter the sector of emerging artists and involved in culture, the difficulties grow exponentially. “We had always had the intrigue, a wanting-to-do-something-to help those who might not be able to dedicate themselves to what is now their hobby”, these are the words of Mercy Lemon i Maria Planagumàboth 21-year-old Olotines and creators of the Volkà Fest, an event that will start next September. During the days 1 i 2art, in different forms, will fill the Plaça de l’U d’octubre in Olot and the room The Carbonera of the Main Theatre.

The organizers met at the Teatre d’Olot and “we hit it off, we worked well together and we both had concerns similar: opening doors to emerging talents». In 2022 they heard about the existence ofStalkersa very new project in which a group of young people aged between 18 and 25 receive support and immersion in the live arts. “We registered and they chose us”, they explain. From this experience, from learning how to organize cultural events, he came out Volkà Fest, but Llimona and Planagumà do not intend to disassociate themselves from Stlakers. “If this edition works, we would like to do more editions of our project, and that the future participants of the dives find in us one opportunity to expose himself”.

The festival works under the premise Young emerging artists linked to the Garrotxa Volcanic Zoneand this is one of the aspects to which the organizers have wanted to be faithful.«Although we have an open mind, the idea is that the participants have a link with the volcanic land, with Olot, with Garrotxa”, they explain. In addition, they have had the support of the’town hall, Olot Culture and the Theater and express that “the proximity has given us a lot freedomdespite encountering problems along the way, having the institutions on our side has made us stronger sure».

Fifty young creators make shorts during the Cerdanya Film Festival

For two days, from 4 pm to midnight, the Volkà Fest program offers different disciplines. La Carbonera will host the exhibitions by Genís Cargol, Carla Fernández, Àngel Bayona, Pere de Solà-Morales, Helena Aguilar and Sofiya Laskova, and the screening with colloquium of the short film original, Adela, by Aina Planagumà and Natàlia Barrientos. On the other hand, in Plaça U d’Octubre it will take place live wall art (Greendel15), arts vives where there will be contemporary dance and street theater (Pol Toro, Guiligan Dionisio, Teresa Roca and David Cerdán), sessions alternatives (Carpablanca alternative i Anomik.Warp) , concerts de jazz, soul r&b (I like you lol why), i també rap (That’s Lava!). Llimona and Planagumà have also supported the trade localcounting food trucks where they will offer food from Baletta’s Pizza i craft beer of Poch’s, two nearby establishments. Entrance to the festival is free.
