The Israeli wheelchair tennis team, which is currently participating in the world championships in Portugal, lost yesterday (Saturday) in the 2: 1 manner category to the British team. The team consisting of players Ilan Spivak Ramat Gan, Adam Berdichevsky, Guy Sasson and Sergei Lisov, and captain Ofer Sela, will compete today for the 7-8 places.
The quad team (more severe degree of disability) lost 2: 0 to the Japanese team and finished the championship in sixth place. The team includes Shraga Weinberg from Ilan Spivak Ramat Gan, Yossi Saadon and Ili Hayut from the Tel Aviv Warrior House, and the captain Nimrod BichlerWho said at the end of the competitions: “The quad team finished an intense week of Nations Cup games with mixed feelings.”
Bichler added: “On the one hand we were on a mission to finish in the top six and avoid the qualifiers next year while demonstrating a good level of tennis, and on the other hand a sense of missing out when winning one more set and we would advance to the semi-finals. “I am proud of the high level that Shraga presented in the game against Wagner and in the victories over the British Green and the Turkish Altinal, in the victories of Yossi and in the great integration of Eli in the team.”
It should be noted that both the Howen team and the quad team secured their participation in next year’s World Championships.
