/ The National Security Communications Advisor at the White House, John Kirby, suggested on Sunday that the Israeli army’s announcement of withdrawal from the southern Gaza Strip was a “break” for its forces.

Kirby told the American ABC channel in response to a question about the significance of this withdrawal: “It is difficult to know what it means now, and according to what we understand, and based on what they announced, it is in fact a period of rest and regaining fitness for its forces (the Israeli army) that have been on the ground since four months”.

The Israeli army announced, on Sunday, that all brigades had left the southern Gaza Strip last night, except for one brigade whose mission is to prevent Palestinian civilians from returning to the northern Gaza Strip.

Reuters reported that an army spokesman revealed “the withdrawal of all ground forces from the southern Gaza Strip, except for one battalion,” without clarifying any other details.

Al-Hurra website quoted an Israeli army official as saying, “The 98th Division, with its three brigades, left the city of Khan Yunis last night, after the operation there ended, following 4 months of fighting.”

Thus, “only the Nahal Brigade remains in the southern Gaza Strip, which is carrying out the mission of securing the Netzer Corridor, in order to prevent civilians from returning to the northern Gaza Strip.”
