Chennai ∙ Female SI shot at accused who attacked police officers. Bantu Surya, a habitual criminal, was shot. He hit the police officer on the head with an iron rod during the vehicle inspection the other day.
Last Sunday, Bantu Surya, along with two others, was riding a bike without a helmet while drunk on the Konnoor highway in Chennai. Ainavaram SI Shankar, who conducted a vehicle inspection, stopped them. The SI and his team chased the accused who evaded the police. The accused beat SI Shankar on the head with an iron wire and passed away. Then a special team was formed under the leadership of Aynavaram Assistant SI Meena to nab the accused.

Two people were arrested after checking the vehicle number. Based on the information received from them, Bantu Surya was arrested by surrounding the house. He attacked the police officers on the way to the station. He stopped the vehicle to urinate and got out and took a knife from a nearby shop and slashed the police officers.
Immediately SI Meena opened fire. Surya who was shot in the knee and 2 police officers who were cut in the hand were admitted to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. This is the second such police firing in Chennai in a week.
