RA Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Hrachya Rostomyan attended the end-of-year hearings of reports of senior coaches of judo and boxing youth teams.

The press service of the Ministry reports that Fedya Aleksanyan, the senior coach of the youth boxing team, informed that the youth boxers won 2 bronze medals at the European Championship, and Vazgen Badalyan, the senior coach of the youth team, informed about the 1 silver and 3 bronze medals won at the European Championship. No medals were won at the World Championships. The coaches noted that the poor results are due to the lack of training sessions and the lack of experience in participating in international tournaments.

The minister assessed the participation of young Armenian boxers in this year’s European Championship as satisfactory, but he assessed the general situation in the boxing sport as insufficient.

“It is necessary to organize the work in such a way that the results are better. This requires working together to get the generational transition right. In order to have a good adult team, senior coaches of youth and youth teams and coaches working in sports schools have a serious job to do,” said the minister.

Karen Abaghyan, the senior coach of the youth judo team, and Martin Sargsyan, the senior coach of the youth team, also gave a report. The senior coaches of both teams are also dissatisfied with the sports results of their students. The coaches have presented that the youth and young judokas did not win medals at the European and World Championships in 2016.

According to the coaches, the reason for unsuccessful participation is insufficient number of training sessions and low participation in international tournaments.

The working group accepting the report rated the work of the coaches of the judo teams as insufficient.
