The death toll from Tuesday’s Russian missile attack on Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine has risen to eleven, reported the newspaper Ukrainska pravda on the website, citing the mayor of the city, Oleksandr Honcharenko. This figure was also confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior. Among the dead are three minors.
According to the police, 61 people were injured in the Russian strike, which also hit a pizzeria full of people. Seven people managed to free themselves from the rubble, which rescuers are continuing to search for.
Ukraine’s secret service, the SBU, announced it had detained a Russian military intelligence agent, an employee of a local gas company, who helped guide the Russian attack on the city. On the instructions of Russian intelligence, he secretly recorded a video recording of a gastronomic establishment in the center of Kramatorsk and near parked cars, which he handed over to the Russians. And this was followed by the intervention of a pizzeria, which was full of people.
American President Joe Biden was asked by journalists whether, in his opinion, Vladimir Putin is now weakened after the Wagnerian rebellion: “Hard to say. But he’s clearly losing the war,” replied the head of the White House. “He’s losing the war at home and has become a bit of an outcast around the world.’
The first 14 Abrams tanks purchased in the United States from the decommissioned equipment of the US Marine Corps are already in Poland. Today they are disembarked in the port of Szczecin in the north of Poland. These tanks are supposed to fill the gaps left by the armored vehicles that Poland handed over to Ukraine.
This is the first delivery based on the contract concluded in January this year between the Polish Ministry of Defense and the US government for the supply of 116 Abrams tanks in the M1A1 version between 2023 and 2024 worth $1.4 billion (about CZK 30.4 billion), of which about 200 million is paid by the American side. The US also agreed to supply Poland with relevant munitions, including depleted uranium anti-tank rounds. The first delivery also includes three M88 Hercules recovery tanks and spare parts. The next shipment of 42 tanks should follow by the end of July, and the third batch of 60 tanks should arrive by the end of the year.
“Our crews from the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade, which is part of the 18th Mechanized Division, the iron division responsible for the security of eastern Poland, are already trained. And so they will immediately take over these tanks, which will represent an impenetrable barrier,” Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak declared today in Szczecin.

Kramatorsk is located in the north of the Donetsk region, not far from the cities of Slavyansk or Lyman and approxand 30 kilometers from the front line at Bakhmut, which has been the site of battles between the Russian and Ukrainian armies for many months. Last April, not long after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian missiles hit the train station in Kramatorsk, used by civilians to evacuate to safer areas. Several dozen people died. The State Department said at the time that Russia was no longer hiding that it was deliberately killing civilians, and that its behavior was no different from terrorist organizations.
