The German artist Anselm Kiefer is celebrated for his monumental paintings and gigantic sculpture parks. In his artist edition of WELT, he now gives readers an extraordinarily intimate perspective on his work that has never been seen before.
There is this moment in Wim Wender’s new film “Anselm” in which the artist seems to wonder about himself. Right at the beginning – and in 3D – you see him cycling through his gigantic studio on a bicycle and suddenly stopping in front of one of his perhaps 6 meter high canvases.
He looks up with his head back, decidedly incredulous, as if he himself were amazed at his literally limitless creative power.
