Popular video games like World of Warcraft will return to China this summer, its American developer said on Wednesday Blizzard and your local partner NetEasea year after a contractual dispute caused its departure from this market.

“Blizzard Entertainment’s esteemed video game titles that have captivated millions of players in China will return to the market sequentially, starting this summer, under a new publishing agreement,” both companies said in a statement.

WoW’s Chinese servers went offline in January 2023, sparking a wave of anger and regret among millions of users who had dedicated years to the game.

Blizzard products entered the Chinese market in 2008 in collaboration with local internet giant NetEase, a legal requirement in this country that forces foreign developers to partner with Chinese firms.

But after 14 years of joint adventure, the two firms announced in November 2022 that their negotiations to renew the contract had failed, so the games were no longer available.

“After continuing negotiations last year, Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase are excited to align on the path to once again support gamers in mainland China and are proud to reaffirm their commitment to providing exceptional gaming experiences,” they stated.
