Valencia Journalist Amàlia Garrigós led the gala of the eighteenth edition of the Ovidi Awards yesterday at the Gran Teatre de Xàtiva. The juries, made up of journalists and experts in music and design, emphasized the high quality of the artistic production of the applicants for the awards. More than 200 works have been taken into account this year, “which underlines that a high level of production is maintained and the trends of recent years are consolidated”, according to sources from the organization.
The board of the COM, Col·lectiu Ovidi Montllor de Músiques del País Valencian, agreed to award the Artistic Trajectory Award to the singer Raimon, since “his songs have played a fundamental role in the global transmission of our culture and in the fight for our rights as a society”. At the Ovidi Awards party, and to pay tribute to him, the Xativin singers Pep Gimeno performed SausageAbraham Rivas and Feliu Ventura, and three Valencian singers from different generations such as La Maria, Mireia Vives and Anna Mira, who sang works by Raimon.
The award for Support for Music in Valencia went to Xavier Rius “because he has stood out over the last eight years as a faithful accomplice to the culture of the Valencian Country”. The laureate declared that music in Valencian has educated and trained a wide generation of Valencians in social commitment and always swimming against the current and against established power.
