Many people share their experience that many other symptoms follow without leaving the covid.
This is known as long term covid or long covid. Loss of taste and smell, extreme fatigue and headache were found to be long term symptoms of covid. Many have also shared about experiencing brain fog, a condition in which the brain and thoughts become confused and sluggish. Now, a study shows that face blindness or prosopagnosia is also found in long-term covid sufferers.

Face blindness is a neurological disorder that causes the inability to recognize faces. These people face the problem of not being able to recognize faces as well as not being able to recognize places. The study has been published in the journal Cortex. Researchers from Darmouth College in the United States participated in the study.

The study was conducted on a twenty-eight-year-old girl named Annie who was infected with Covid in March 2020. Before getting infected with covid, Annie had no problem in recognizing faces etc. But by two months after contracting the virus, Annie could no longer recognize even her close family members.

Annie says that once she saw her own father in a restaurant, she didn’t even recognize him. Annie said she could recognize her father’s voice but the face felt like a stranger’s. Annie also stated that she still relies entirely on her voice to identify people.

Annie told the researchers that she also faced the problem of recognizing places after Covid. Annie said that she can’t even recognize the places she regularly visits.

The team has also collected information from 54 people living with long-term covid. The researchers stated that most of them face problems similar to Annie’s.

Researchers have stated that many people with long-term covid suffer from many neuropsychological disorders, including brain damage. High rates of visual impairment were also found to be common in patients with long-term covid. The researchers said that more in-depth studies are needed to clarify this.

Chronic Covid is when symptoms persist for more than twelve weeks after exposure to the virus.
