The Zangezur corridor will increase the capacity of the Middle Corridor.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, this was stated by the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan Samir Sharifov during a panel discussion at the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank in Tbilisi.

Sharifov said that the main priority project currently on the transport and transit agenda of Azerbaijan is the creation of transport communications connecting the Eastern Zangezur economic region of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and from there with the Kars region of Turkey.

The minister added that the Zangezur corridor is of particular importance from the point of view of opening a new transport artery along the Middle Corridor and will serve to fully realize the transit potential of the countries of the region.

“The implementation of the Zangezur Connection will increase the capacity of the corridor and ensure more stable delivery times. We believe that the Zangezur Corridor will also bring lasting peace and security to the region and help build trust and stability through improved trade and cooperation between countries,” Sharifov added.

Note that the theme of the 57th annual meeting, which will be held from May 2 to 5, is “Bridge to the Future.”

The first meeting of the Board of Governors will take place on May 4. The opening will mark the official start of the annual meeting. This is an event attended by honored guests from the host country. ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa and Georgian Finance Minister and Chairman of the ADB Board of Governors Lasha Khutsishvili will make statements.
