Yesterday, the Raimundo Porres Civic Center was the extension of the classrooms of the city’s schools, since 5th and 6th grade students became privileged spectators of the play What a curious job!, promoted by the Culture Unit of the CSIC Scientist in Galicia.

The representation moves away from conventionalisms since it is a work in which the person in charge of putting the boys and girls in a situation is a scientist, Luisa Martínez Lorenzo, who with her explanations makes the schoolchildren attentive and with direct participation in what happens on stage, guess what his profession is.

They do it soon and “they learn that there are researchers like me, who work to understand the world we live in and improve our lives”, explains this professional who also emphasizes in her explanations this aspect in which there is still a way to go. to go, gender equality.

At the beginning of the work, she is in charge of dismantling the idea that those who dedicate themselves to the world of science are “eccentric nuts” as has been reflected on multiple occasions in the world of cinema or comics.

The interest of the spectators is captured with the help of an actor and an actress, Carlos Godoy and Sonsoles Cordón, who turn into bacteria and, from there, starts this staging of what can be called scientific theater and which achieves that schoolchildren end up with the conviction that being a scientist is, at least, a very curious and interesting job.

«We do the work in a comedy key to get more attention from the kids, but it is still a dramatized scientific talk»

The two characters star in three different situations, in two of them they are bacteria and in the third a virus and a bacterium. “We show what bacteria are, why they are necessary, but that you have to have healthy hygiene habits to avoid health problems.”

Miranda is one of the four cities in Castilla y León that participates in this theatrical project of Ciudad Ciencia. The actors, accustomed to facing demanding audiences, acknowledge that the smallest are, and a lot, but they also pointed out that “it is a very grateful and participatory audience.” The Miranda schoolchildren accepted the challenge from the outset and, like other kids, were surprised to see that “we went from a scientific talk to a live experience of what happens in our bodies.” Undoubtedly, an entertaining way to learn and be interested in the world of science.
