Thiruvananthapuram: PG Doctors in the state medical college said that the strike (Doctors Strike) will not be called off. PG doctors say there is no clarity in the government order regarding the appointment of non-academic junior residents. They want the health minister to be ready for the discussion. The PG doctors said that if they were not ready for the discussion, the emergency service would be stopped. The strikers said there was no change in the current strike and that the emergency duty boycott could be extended for another 24 hours.

The government had yesterday approved the main demand of the strikers to appoint residents in medical colleges to reduce the workload. The government last night issued an order appointing 373 non-resident junior doctors on a temporary basis. However, association officials said the order was unclear. Doctors are demanding that the health minister be prepared for the discussion.

The strikers demanded the appointment of non-academic junior residents in medical colleges to facilitate functioning in medical college hospitals in case of delay in first year PG admission. Despite the minister’s assurances in this regard, the strike continued as the order was not issued. Until the arrival of the new batch, the temporary appointment was made with a salary of Rs 45,000 per month.
