There will be a need to further increase fuel prices – Finance Minister Ali Sabri

Finance Minister Ali Sabri told foreign media that efforts to adjust government funding would require raising tax rates and further raising fuel prices over the next six months.

He further commented,

He said Sri Lanka would need about $ 3 billion in foreign aid over the next six months.

He said the funds were needed to procure essential commodities, including fuel and medicines, to manage the severe economic crisis.

Sabri said Sri Lanka would seek a further $ 500 million loan from India for fuel, which would be sufficient for about five weeks’ needs.

Finance Minister Ali Sabri said the government would seek the support of the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank and countries including China, the United States, Britain and the Middle East.
