Gabriel Attal announced a reform to prevent insurers from turning away from risk areas.

It is a recent phenomenon, directly linked to climate warming and which is starting to worry. In fact, with the increase in climatic hazards, some insurers no longer cover houses potentially at risk. A trend already at work in certain regions of the world frequently swept by hurricanes or forest fires, such as California or Florida, and which is now reaching France.

“We are starting to see the first signs of selection of insurable risks in areas subject to climatic phenomena”, confirms Édouard Vieillefond, the general director of the public reinsurer CCR, which manages the natural disaster regime (known as Cat Nat). Clearly, in areas likely to be hit hard by floods, storms or even marine submersion (Atlantic coast, etc.), it is starting to be more and more difficult to insure your home.
