PEdro Palma, economist, professor emeritus at IESA and director of Ecoanalítica, pointed out that since December and the first months of this year there has been a slowdown in the economy.

“By making a massive injection of bolivars into the economy, a large part of them end up being channeled to the exchange market to acquire foreign currency and that explains why the exchange rate rose,” said the economist.

Palma also highlighted that “it is possible that in the second half of the year we will have a more favorable behavior of the economy, although that will depend on multiple factors.”

Growth was not symmetrical

For his part, Luis Oliveros, economist and Dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences at UNIMET, highlighted that “we had economic growth last year.”

“It was not symmetrical neither in the economic activities nor in the different states,” he said.

He also stated that “there were states in which the growth” was very small.

Oliveros stressed that “with the implementation of the IGTF, a slowdown in the Venezuelan economy begins, which makes things start to get more complicated.”

“There may be improvements for the second semester, but we must remember that this is an economy that has not had the necessary reforms to have growth,” he said.
