An attack by an attendee at the presentation of the Youth Mandate in the Torre de Cali building put the Mayoral candidates participating in the event at risk.
As reported by the former Minister of Justice and candidate for Mayor, Wilson Ruiz, on his X account (formerly Twitter), an assistant who sought to attack him ended up attacking his bodyguard, Alejandro Gallego, and tried to disarm him.
And Gallego’s reaction prevented the attack from ending in tragedy, since according to versions of some attendees collected by the newspaper El País, the debate ended in a great brawl that unleashed an attack and moments of panic.

As explained by the candidates and the District Youth Council in a statement, none of the candidates were injured.

“We categorically reject any type of violence in these democratic spaces. We clarify that none of the candidates who attended the event were injured. (…). We respect differences of thought and respect for diversity. We call not to speculate, there were no hooded people at the event, and that the competent authorities investigate what happened,” the District Youth Council indicated in the statement.
Wilson Ruiz, Alejandro Éder, Miyerlandi Torres, Diana Rojas, Danis Rentería and Deninson Mendoza participated in the event.
Ruiz stated that “at this time there are no guarantees to participate in this type of forums.”
For her part, former queen Taliana Vargas, wife of candidate Alejandro Éder, stated in a video she published on her social networks: “I am very afraid, I am very scared by what just happened in Cali. “This can’t happen anymore.”
“It’s okay not to think alike, but we have to learn to live with that, to respect the difference. If you don’t like this way of doing politics or you don’t like the candidates, don’t vote or vote blank, but don’t attack them.”
In the midst of tears, he said that out of fear he will cancel the social agenda he had planned for this Saturday.
