The Argentine musician Gustavo Cerati, who with his band Soda Stereo internationalized rock in Spanish, died this Thursday after four years in a coma due to a cerebrovascular accident. Cerati, 55, died in a clinic in the city of Buenos Aires.
“We inform you that today (Thursday) in the morning the patient Gustavo Cerati died as a result of respiratory arrest,” said a medical report authorized by the family and disseminated through the musician’s Twitter account.
Since the stroke he had in May 2010 in Caracas, the former leader of Soda Stereo was fighting for his life in a rehabilitation clinic. He was 55 years old. The funeral would take place in the Buenos Aires Legislature.
Cerati remained hospitalized at the Alcla clinic in Buenos Aires. Last August 11 was his last birthday. Lilian Clark, mother of the former leader of Soda Stereo, was optimistic at that time about the state of health of her son.
«My baby turns 55, and I hope that (this fourth birthday in a coma) is the final one and that, from now on, he can answer the questions. For me today is going to be another day to accompany him. He is whole, he does not suffer at all, so there we are, at the foot of the canyon, waiting for the miracle,” Lilian Clark told the media that day.
Last May 15 marked four years since the stroke that left Cerati in a coma, after a concert in Venezuela.
