Richard Gasquet (43rd in the world) could not do anything against the Austrian Dominic Thiem, who fell 43rd in the world 6-1, 6-4, on Monday in the first round of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.
The winner of the US Open 2020 Dominic Thiem is better and the former French number one Richard Gasquet paid the price this Monday in Monte-Carlo. The former world number 3, who fell to a modest 106th place and received an invitation to the Monegasque tournament, outclassed the Biterrois, overwhelmed by the power of the Austrian. The latter won his first match in Masters 1000 for almost two years (in May 2021 when he beat Marton Fucsovics for his entry into the running in Rome).
The double Roland-Garros finalist (2018 and 2019) will face the Danish Holger Rune (8th) on Wednesday for a place in the round of 16. A big test for anyone trying to return to their best level after ten months of absence (between 2021 and 2022) to treat a wrist injury.
