There are many statues and sculptures that bring luck all over the world. According to tradition, you only have to rub them to make wishes come true. Most of the time, rubbing is intended to restore one’s own health or to make a loved one’s illness disappear. In Florence, for example, there is a black boar with tourists rubbing their noses. The olfactory bulb now shines in a golden tone as if freshly polished. And in Bremen, people make pilgrimages to the town musicians of the same name, hoping that touching donkeys, dogs, cats and roosters will bring them luck. Above all, stroking the donkey’s legs should make dreams come true.

Little consolation

There is now such a consolation donor in the Uckermark. The figure was recently handed over in the Schwedter Kastanienhöfe. The team from the local palliative living community explains that the work of the facility has a lot to do with charity and cordiality and that they therefore want to present a consolation and lucky charm to the citizens. A “Little King” made of bronze was intended for this purpose.

“You’re welcome to rub it in order to transfer happiness and consolation to the seeker,” it said in advance. The figure comes from the artist Toby Wichmann from Thedinghausen and was set up by the local stonemason company Busch as a donation for the palliative living community. It was handed over to “Haus Paul” by an anonymous donor and his family at the end of May.

give hope

Said family would like to underline the importance of the institution and the palliative work, but also give the citizens a place of hope and anticipation of happy times.

The “Little King” is also intended to commemorate the facility’s namesake, a little boy named Paul, who died of cancer more than five years ago, said Managing Director Denny Unger from pro-Intensiv GmbH in an interview: “The ‘Little King’ reflects reflects his friendly and open-minded way of life.”

The voluntary circle of friends of citizens, which formed around the palliative living community, was involved in the construction work for the foundation.

The team would like to thank all the helpers and supporters involved as well as the anonymous donor for this great gift.

The palliative residential community was opened at the end of 2021, offers space for up to eight palliative guests from the Uckermark region and thus contributes immensely to reducing supply bottlenecks for palliative patients in the region.
