Mercadona and the representatives ofUGT, CCOO and of Independent Union (SI), have signed the new collective agreement of the company. This agreement, which reinforces the importance of shared and sustainable growth, will enter into force onJanuary 1, 2024 and will have one duration of five yearsuntil the end of 2028.

According to the company, the agreement guarantees the purchasing power of the workforce. The increase in the base salary is linked to the CPI, up to 2.5%, and, if it is higher, the company will complete this increase up to a maximum of 6%, a percentage linked to the profit objectives of the ‘company; measure in accordance with the model of wealth creation and distribution of shared benefits that the company has been applying for years.

In addition, the company chaired by Juan Roig already guarantees one minimum entry salary of 1,507 euros per month/gross(20% more than the interprofessional minimum wage), to which are added, among others, the complements specific to the company’s remuneration policy which involve increases of 11% per year up to section 5, and which can represent 60% more than the interprofessional minimum wage.

Logistics centers and warehouses

In the new agreement, it is extended to the workers of beehives (exclusive warehouses for online sales) and of the logistics blocks the eight weekends off a year. This initiative will gradually come into force in 2024 and end in 2025, which will mean that this measure will be achieved by the majority of its workforce. Also, the company is committed to reduce working hours 2025.

Mercadona’s Director of Labor Relations, Ruth García, emphasizes that “this new agreement is the result of the efforts of all parties involved to guarantee the satisfaction of the more than 100,000 people who make up Mercadona, who are the cause of the company’s success and growth. A company whose management model is based on satisfying the workers, because they are the ones who satisfy the more than 5.7 million households every day”.

Union satisfaction

The unions also show their satisfaction. Lola Luna Fernandezstate manager of the Commerce sector of FeSMC UGT, highlights the importance of this agreement, as it is the one with the greatest impact on the sector and values ​​very positively the agreements reached in this negotiation, agreements that will allow the people who work in Mercadona , “remain at the head of the sector, not only in terms of financial remuneration, but also in terms of quality in the distribution of the working day, and qualified breaks, which facilitates the reconciliation of personal and work life so in demand in the trade sector”.

In similar terms, Jose Maria Martinez, general secretary of the Federation of CCOO services, has indicated: “We understand that this agreement demonstrates once again that, through social dialogue, the new labor realities can be adapted with the participation of all parties: company and RLPT. Making this adaptation, improving working conditions and with an increase in wages that guarantee purchasing power in the largest company in the sector. It is also worth highlighting the continuity of the Observatory that was created in the previous agreement, where it will be studied how the working day will be reduced and the analysis of its distribution”.
