The DataCrédito Experian study, found that while in 2021 and 2022 there was a credit growth of up to 32.3%, going from 12.6 million operations to 16.7 million. For the beginning of this year the number of loans was reduced to 15.4 million.

It also determined that credit operations by type of sector show that the real sector delivers the largest share of credits with 55% by 2023.. This growth becomes more evident between 2022 and 2023.

This reduction, according to the analysis, is due to the increase in credit interest rates, and the deterioration reported by the Financial Superintendence of Colombia, of certain types of portfolio that leads to restricting the credit policy in some entities.

“This study allows us to identify the possibilities of access and how credit operations are taking place, for example, in those under 28 years of age, that one in four has access to a loan”, commented Clariana Carreño, president of Experian for Colombia and Mexico.

Among the results of the study, it was also found that in the comparison by gender in the number of credit operations, women have 55.6% of registered credit services.

The study, in turn, showed that one in four credits are granted to people under 28 years of age. The lowest age ranges present a greater growth of the participation in the credit activity.

The company explained that it was analyzed that the range between 18 and 21 years has a significant gain of 4%going from 1.2% in the period from January to April 2021 to 5.2% for the same four months of 2023. The range from 22 to 28 years of age follows in growth in participation, with 2.9% , reaching a 20.1% share of total loans in the first four months of this year.

It is important to highlight, in turn, from this report, that two out of every five loans go to strata one and two. In the analysis of credit operations by socioeconomic stratum, strata two and three are those with the highest participation, with 29.7% and 37.1%respectively, for the first four months of the year.

Stratum one also gained participation, increasing 0.5% between 2021 and 2023. Thus, between strata one and two, it is almost achieved that two out of every five credits have been granted at the beginning of 2023 to the lowest socioeconomic strata of the Colombian population. This allows a better distribution of credit and access by people with lower economic conditions, which helps to partially reduce the imbalance between the different socioeconomic levels.

The commercial portfolio gained 8.3%

According to the DataCrédito Experian report, which reviewed the changes in participation by type of portfolio, it determined that the commercial or business line has the highest increase with 8.3%, going from 30.2% for the first four months of the 2021 and reaching 38.5% two years later. In comparison, the consumer portfolio lost 6.9% of participation in the two years mentionedpossibly caused by the increase in the current high interest rates of this type of portfolio and by the deterioration exposed by the Financial Superintendency, of certain types of portfolio.
