The carboy price butane was fixed on June 25 by the Government of Spain, which left it in 19,55 euros as a measure to protect consumers against the triggering of inflation due to the war in Ukraine.

It was through a royal decree that was urgently approved and that, among other issues, froze the costs of liquefied petroleum gases in containers of 8 to 22 kilos. With the new price, the historical maximum of 17.50 euros for a bottle that was registered in 2013 and 2014 was exceeded.

A year ago, the butane cylinder cost 16.13 euros and there was even a time when it dropped to 13 euros. And, in 2009, it cost only 10.50 euros.

However, as of January 1, 2023, and given the price increase, the cost of the butane cylinder, the most used for cooking and heating water, could even double this figure.

And it is that the regulation established by the Government of Pedro Sánchez that freezes the price of the butane cylinder ends on December 31 and, the next day, there will be a new price.

How the price of the butane cylinder is calculated

Taking into account that since September 2021 the price of the butane cylinder has increased by 5% every two months, everything seems to indicate that on January 1 it will rise again since the increase in the cost of hydrocarbons and propane continues unstoppable . The question is how much.

Well, in principle, if it follows the same ascending line, the butane cylinder price in 2023 It could go up to almost 22 euros, which would far exceed the all-time highs recorded so far.

At the moment, on July 18, the Official State Gazette published the update of maximum sales prices for liquefied petroleum gas containers. They were like this:

  • 12.5 kg regulated butane cylinder: 19.55 euros

  • Repsol lightweight 12 kg: 23,50 euros
  • Cepsa of 12.5 kg: 26,27 euros
  • weight of 11 kg: 20,65 euros
  • Repsol K6 6 kg: 23,50 euros
  • Disa Nu-b of 6 kg: 16,85 euros
