Core Responsibilities and Regulatory Compliance
The role centers around ensuring smooth and efficient operations within the operating room environment. The Coordinator will collaborate directly with the Chief of Anesthesia and the OR Manager to meticulously coordinate the daily OR schedule.
Furthermore, the position requires a commitment to optimizing patient flow throughout the entire perioperative process – from pre-operative preparation through surgery, the operating room itself, and post-anesthesia care (PACU). Daily staffing assignments will be made based on established unit-based competencies, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
Fostering Growth and Maintaining Standards
Beyond daily operations, the Coordinator will champion professional development within the department. This includes organizing and delivering in-service training, as well as actively participating in the interview process for new candidates. Administrative duties are also central to the role, encompassing the tabulation of Kronos/payroll data and diligent tracking of staff credentials, licenses, and annual health assessments.
A commitment to continuous improvement is paramount. The Coordinator will utilize the Samie Model for problem-solving and performance improvement initiatives. They will also assist the OR Manager with staff evaluations and counseling, and play a key role in orienting new staff members and assigning preceptors. Maintaining strict adherence to Infection Control practices is another critical component of the position.
Qualifications and Compensation
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the California Board of Registered Nursing (CA DCA). A minimum of two years of recent Operating Room experience is required. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, coupled with excellent customer service, are also essential.
Certification as a Certified Perioperative Registered Nurse (CNOR) through AORN is preferred. Additionally, candidates must hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association and, for positions within Los Angeles City, Fire Life Safety Training must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $53.00 to $87.45. USC notes that final compensation will be determined based on a comprehensive evaluation of factors including experience, education, skills, internal equity, and market conditions.
