“Come on, I’m going to shoot a 9mm.” In a private message on Thursday, a man threatened to kill Jamel Belaïdi, elected LR of the Cantal departmental council and opposition councilor in Aurillac, because of a photo posted with Enrico Macias on his personal Facebook profile a few days earlier. The Internet user first insulted the elected official then his family, accusing him of being a “sellout”.

Asked by The Parisian, Jamel Belaïdi explained that he had posted this image because it “symbolized the peace that can exist between a Jew, Enrico Macias, and [lui]Who [est] Muslim” in the current context “of tensions between Israel and Gaza”.

Despite the threats, the elected official present at the rally against anti-Semitism

Faced with this situation, Jamel Belaïdi called the gendarmerie that same evening who set up protection around his home. He filed a complaint the day after the threats.

The perpetrator, unfavorably known to the police, was arrested on Friday and then released. He admitted the facts and a psychiatric expertise was requested. The investigation continues.

Even if the elected official continues to receive messages “from people with bad intentions”, he was present at the rally against anti-Semitism this Sunday in Aurillac. Near France 3, he declared: “I condemn any form of political or religious racism. I fight all of this. We must give a signal, whether we are Jewish, Muslim, Christian, atheist or Buddhist. We must give this message of peace and tolerance. »
