The Israeli armed forces announced this evening that three Israeli soldiers were killed during a battle in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported.
The statement did not contain details.
Meanwhile, the death toll from an Israeli airstrike on a school-turned-refuge for displaced persons in the Gaza Strip has reached 28, including women and children.
The strike, which wounded many more, was carried out in the central city of Deir al-Balakh, where one million people have taken shelter after fleeing fighting elsewhere after more than a year of war, BTA reported.
Israel’s armed forces said they carried out a “precision strike” on terrorists who had a command center in a school.
“This is yet another example of the systematic attack by the terrorist organization Hamas on civilian infrastructure in violation of international law,” the statement said.
Hamas denies such accusations. Gaza medics reported that 54 more people were wounded at the school.
In northern Gaza, the Israeli military is continuing an offensive that began six days ago when it sent troops into Jabalia, the largest of Gaza’s eight historic refugee camps.
The military said it had killed at least 12 fighters from Hamas and the Iran-backed Islamic Jihad group, who they said were operating from a command center at the former medical complex in Jabalia.
Palestinian health officials say at least 130 people have been killed so far in the operation, which Israel says is aimed at preventing Hamas from regrouping.
The military has told residents to evacuate the area, where the United Nations estimates more than 400,000 people are trapped.
Israel launched its offensive after Hamas-led militants carried out a cross-border attack on southern Israeli municipalities on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking approximately 250 hostages, according to Israeli figures.
More than 42,000 Palestinians have been killed during the Israeli offensive, health authorities in Hamas-controlled Gaza have said. Most of the Strip’s 2.3 million residents have been displaced.
