Manama> The UAE has announced a three-day weekend holiday in Sharjah. Holidays for government agencies are on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Effective January 1.
The ruler of Sharjah, Dr. The decision was taken by the Sharjah Executive Council on the recommendation of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.
The UAE had yesterday announced a four-and-a-half-day working day that would include Sunday as a weekend holiday and last from Monday to Friday afternoon. However, Sharjah was also included in the full holiday on Friday. Under UAE law, the federal emirate has the power to make its own decisions on such matters.
Meanwhile, the Fujairah government has adopted the UAE’s weekend holiday of Saturday and Sunday. The system will be implemented in all government institutions across the emirate of Fujairah, and the working week will be from Monday to Thursday, with work only until noon on Fridays. Effective January 1, Sunday, January 2 will be an official holiday.
