Thrissur ∙ Vasantha (78), a retired teacher of Vatanapally Ganeshamangalam, was stabbed to death. The arrested accused Jayaraj testified that he stabbed his body six times. The murder was done to extort money. 20 rupees worth of gold, a dagger and a glove were recovered from the accused’s house.

After retiring as a teacher, Vasantha built a new house and lived alone. They have no children. Her husband died earlier. Accused Jayaraj is a neighbor of Vasantha. The incident took place on Thursday at 7 am. Jayaraj came to Vasantha’s house with a glove and a dagger and lay in wait. When Vasantha came out of the house, the shalit was tied around her neck and stabbed with a dagger. Neighbors informed the police after hearing screams from Vasantha’s house.

Vasantha’s dead body was found in the back of the house. Siddique, who was selling fish on the roadside on the nearby national highway, took a picture of the man who jumped over the wall of Vasantha’s house on his phone. This became a crucial evidence in the investigation.
