The countdown is on: The Berlinale will start in a few days. First tickets can be bought online.

Ticket sales have started a few days before the start of the Berlin Film Festival. The first events were activated on Monday morning. The festival management relies on online ticket sales. There are no sales counters at Potsdamer Platz, where film fans used to camp for hours, this time.

The Berlinale is scheduled to begin on Thursday (February 16). Tickets are slightly more expensive this year. Managing director Mariette Rissenbeek explained this a few weeks ago with increased costs, for example for services and energy.

Performances normally cost 15 euros, screenings in the Berlinale Palast 18 euros. Cheaper tickets are available, for example, in the Generation youth series or for the last day of the festival, the so-called public day on February 26th. There are also discounted tickets for pupils, students and the unemployed.

Alongside Cannes and Venice, the Berlinale is one of the major film festivals. While pandemic restrictions still applied last year, the cinemas are to be fully occupied again this time. Before the restrictions, around 330,000 tickets had been sold in 2020. The Berlinale will open on Thursday with the comedy “She Came to Me” starring Peter Dinklage, Marisa Tomei and Anne Hathaway.
