Tico living in Turkey joined rescue teams after deadly earthquake

Manuel Núñez is a 20-year-old Costa Rican who is studying in Turkey. He was in the city of Adiyaman, very close to where the epicenter was, when the catastrophic earthquake struck.

Shocked by the destruction he witnessed in the streets of his town, he decided to enlist as a volunteer when the Turkish government announced that He was looking for foreigners to help as translators from English, Spanish and Arabic to Turkish in the areas that were most affected.

Núñez explained that, from Adiyaman, the perception is that the situation is getting more complicated every day due to the lack of electricity and drinking water.

The exhaustion also becomes more palpable during the last efforts to find survivors among the rubble.

In addition, the lack of electricity and the internet complicate communication with his family, which is in Costa Rica.

On the fifth day of the search, the Tico says that the disaster scene left by the earthquake resembles that of a war zone, where more than 20,000 deaths have already been recorded.
