TikTok is rolling out a suite of new features designed to foster deeper connections between users and streamline content organization, including Shared Collections and Shared Feeds. These updates, announced this week, aim to transform how individuals interact with and discover content on the platform.
The company first introduced individual Collections earlier this year, allowing users to save TikTok videos into custom folders. Now, with Shared Collections, users can collaborate with friends and family, creating dedicated spaces for shared interests and planning. According to a company release, these collections can be used for everything from coordinating holiday plans to gathering inspiration for home design projects.
Shared Collections offer a new level of social interaction within TikTok. Users can create these collections with anyone they mutually follow, offering a degree of privacy and control. Collections can be kept private between collaborators or made public for broader sharing. The feature is available globally to users age 16 and older.
“Weather it’s content from their favorite creators, inspiration for a home design project, or a new skill they’re learning together, Shared Collection makes it easy for people to stay organized as they discover and save on TikTok,” the company explained. This functionality directly addresses a growing need for users to curate and share content beyond individual consumption.
Looking ahead,TikTok is preparing to launch Shared Feeds in the coming months. this feature will allow users to generate personalized content feeds based on shared interests, accessible through one-on-one direct messages.
these feeds will surface up to 15 videos daily, tailored to the combined tastes of both users, drawing from their existing TikTok activity – including likes, watch history, and comments. One analyst noted the similarity to Instagram Reels’ Blend feature, which also allows for the creation of personalized, collaborative video feeds.
Users will be able to invite others to create a Shared Feed and discuss the content within their direct messages. After viewing the selection of videos, users can access “Shared Likes” history, revealing which videos resonated with both individuals.
Beyond collections and feeds, TikTok is also introducing a new way for users to express themselves: digital greeting cards. Users can now select and send animated greeting cards within their chats, adding a festive touch to their messages.
These updates underscore tiktok’s commitment to evolving beyond a simple video-sharing platform and becoming a more robust social hub. By prioritizing collaborative features and personalized discovery, TikTok aims to deepen user engagement and solidify its position as a leading force in the social media landscape.
