Til Schweiger has had to be treated in a hospital for two weeks. A wound on the leg led to blood poisoning.

Worrying news from actor Til Schweiger. The 60-year-old has sepsis and has to be treated in a clinic on Mallorca.

In an interview with the “Bild” newspaper, he explains: “I’ve been receiving antibiotics in the hospital for a fortnight because I’ve had a wound on my leg since August. I hit my shin back then and germs got in there. Now I have one ‘Open leg,’ that’s what they call it. Unfortunately, it kept getting worse.”

The blood poisoning was so bad at times that Til Schweiger was threatened with having his infected leg amputated. According to the report, doctors fear further complications. The German film star is currently doing worse: “I got a fever on Thursday night.” He has further examinations scheduled for the weekend: “With MRI, Doppler sonography, ultrasound.”

Actor wants to go to New York for premiere

But Til Schweiger wants to be fit soon to fly to New York for the premiere of the new Guy Ritchie film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare”. He had taken on a role in the film. “After that, I would have to go back to the clinic straight away. I haven’t given up hope that it could work,” said Schweiger. However, he has not yet received permission from the doctors to leave the hospital.

In the worst case scenario, sepsis can be fatal. Contrary to the term “blood poisoning”, however, this is not poisoning. The immune system is no longer able to cope with a serious infection and it then progresses to severe inflammation. The pathogens are usually bacteria, fungi, viruses or parasites.
