Ethiopian Runner Tamirat Tola Breaks Marathon Record ‌at Paris Olympics

The prestigious marathon event of the 2024 Paris Olympics, held at Invalides‌ in Paris on Saturday (10/8) noon WIB,​ saw Ethiopian runner Tamirat⁤ Tola ⁤claim gold. The 32-year-old athlete shattered the previous Olympic record with a time of two hours 06.26 minutes.

Tola’s remarkable ⁣performance is ‍considered⁤ prestigious as it signifies exceptional endurance, speed, ⁢and strength.

The Ethiopian runner completed the ⁣42 km race ⁤in Invalides in two hours 06.26 minutes, surpassing the previous Olympic record of two hours 06.32 minutes set in Beijing 2008 by Samuel Wanjiru ‍(Kenya).

While Tola’s achievement is remarkable, it falls short of the current world record of two hours 00.35 minutes, held‍ by Kenyan athlete Kelvin Kiptum.

Tola’s⁣ participation in the Paris ⁢Olympics was a last-minute replacement for an injured teammate.

Belgian runner Bashir Abdi, who ​finished second, received the silver medal, while​ Kenyan athlete Benson Kipruto secured bronze.
