Time.news – The remains of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, famous author of “The Leopard”, the most vivid manifesto of Sicilian identity and culture, will be transferred to the Pantheon of the illustrious of Sicily. “It is the natural place designated to safeguard and honor the tombs of those who made Palermo and its history famous”, says the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, following the decree signed by the general director of Dasoe, Salvatore Requirez, which authorizes the privileged burial of the writer in the church of San Domenico in Palermo.

The request of Father Sergio Catalano, rector of the church of San Domenico in Palermo, was therefore accepted, in which he requested the transfer of the mortal remains of Prince Tomasi of Lampedusa to the Pantheon from the family tomb located in the Capuchin cemetery where they rested since July 1957following the reasoned opinions issued by the mayor of Palermo, Roberto Lagalla, by the Superintendence for cultural heritage as well as by the Prevention department of the ASP of Palermo and the authorization issued by the Archbishop’s Curia of Palermo.

“I register it as a necessary act – says the director of Dasoe, Requirez – due to the extraordinary cultural level of the long-dead character, a crystalline example of a historical narrator with a value that is not only current but difficult to explain, to have completed the process started from the request of the rector of San Domenico – he adds – I thank the entire regional technical consultative commission for the privileged burials for the commitment made and the collaborators in support of the public hygiene service directed by Mario Palermo”.
