The tricolor party has not yet defined candidates in the 146 municipalities where it does not govern and in ten where the current mayors will not seek reelection as in Soyapango and Mejicanos.

The president of the National Executive Council of ARENA (COENA), Jorge Velado, indicated that tomorrow, Wednesday, interviews will begin with the ARENA members who aspire to a candidacy.

“We are asking them (the pre-candidates) to send a note directly to the National Electoral Commission (CEN) so that it does not go through the municipal or departmental headquarters,” the leader suggested. Applicants must send a letter expressing their interest in participating in the selection process.

ARENA hopes to have a complete list of candidates for mayors and deputies by August 24; day on which the internal election of the candidates will be held, who will compete in the municipal and legislative council elections next year.

The majority of the current mayors have had the endorsement of the CEN to seek re-election. According to Velado, the average grade for council leaders has been 7, but he noted that a good number of councilors have been rated with grades above 8 for their performance in their localities.
