Tori Spelling Reveals Eight-Week Health Battle, Children Stepped Up to Care for Her
Despite a challenging health crisis, actress Tori Spelling has returned to her show, ‘misSPELLING,’ and is looking ahead to a busy year. The 52-year-old star recently disclosed she spent the last two months bedridden, relying on her five children to manage household responsibilities and her personal care.
Spelling’s ordeal, as reported by TV3, began with what she initially believed was sinusitis, potentially contracted from her children. However, the condition rapidly worsened, manifesting as severe flu-like symptoms, an inner ear infection, and vertigo. “I felt helpless, depressed, and upset about the state of my body,” Spelling revealed, adding that the illness left her feeling “left out” of important life events.
Multiple rounds of antibiotics proved insufficient, with relief only coming from an antibiotic-enriched nasal rinse. The actress was ill for a total of eight weeks, beginning at the end of 2025. She described feeling as though her body had finally “broken down” after years of maintaining a relentless pace.
Children Assume Household Responsibilities
The severity of Spelling’s illness necessitated a significant shift in family dynamics, with her children taking on unprecedented levels of responsibility. Her children – 16-year-old Liam, 15-year-old Stella, 11-year-old Huddy, 10-year-old Finn, and 6-year-old Bo – stepped up to manage the home. Stella, for example, adjusted her school schedule to ensure her younger brother could continue his education.
The actress described the situation as “heartbreaking” and “depressing,” acknowledging the emotional toll of relying on her children. Despite returning to cooking for the family, she admitted to struggling with maintaining order in the house due to her illness.
A History of Health Challenges
This recent health scare is not isolated. Spelling has previously faced significant health challenges, including issues stemming from “extreme mold” in a former home. This mold contamination forced her and her children to temporarily live in a camper following her divorce from Dean McDermott.
Adding another layer to her health narrative, Spelling revealed a long-held aversion to drinking water, attributing it to a “crazy, irrational fear of liquids offered by other people” and anxieties surrounding potential poisoning, potentially rooted in childhood experiences.
Looking Ahead to Recovery and a Busy Future
Despite the recent setbacks, Spelling remains optimistic about a full recovery and a return to her active lifestyle. She anticipates a demanding year ahead, balancing work commitments with the needs of her five children. While now settled in a new home, she acknowledges the need for assistance with household organization.
“My lifestyle with an active job and children will not change, but will ‘intensify’,” Spelling stated, emphasizing her determination to be in “the best shape” to meet the challenges ahead.
