Bawaslu Member Calls for Comprehensive Evaluation of Election Dispute Resolution Process
On Thursday, August 8, 2024, Totok Hariyono, a member of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), emphasized the need for a comprehensive evaluation of the process for resolving election disputes.
This evaluation, according to Totok, aims to identify obstacles and challenges encountered during the dispute resolution process and to find ways to improve its quality and speed in future elections.
Totok made this statement at the Technical Working Meeting on the Resolution of Election Disputes in the Election of Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents, and Mayors and Deputy Mayors in 2024 Wave IV in Malang, East Java.
“We must continue to strive to improve the dispute resolution mechanism so that we can provide fast and appropriate justice for all parties involved,” Totok said.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining integrity and professionalism throughout the dispute resolution process and adhering to applicable regulations and laws.
The Coordinator of the Legal and Dispute Division of Bawaslu RI noted that in the recent Election Results Dispute (PHPU), Bawaslu was criticized for its formalistic and legalistic approach.
Totok suggested that Bawaslu reconsider its interpretation of the Constitutional Court’s decision in the PHPU case.
“It is a slap in the face for us to focus on the substantive rather than the legalistic aspects,” he said.
