Chinese Minister of Culture and Tourism Sun Yeli announced measures aimed at making tourist tours for foreigners in China more convenient and smooth.

Sun highlighted the payment difficulties faced by incoming tourists, as they find it inconvenient to move within China, because cashless payment via smartphones dominates commercial places from hotels to grocery stores.

Sun told local and foreign reporters after the conclusion of the annual national legislative session in the Chinese capital, Beijing, saying, “This is indeed a new unexpected problem with mobile payments developing so rapidly in China.”

He added, “The central authorities have paid great attention to this issue and have established a coordination mechanism to solve it,” explaining that “detailed measures are being implemented, such as reinstalling and upgrading point-of-sale devices, to ensure that when foreign tourists move in China, they will be able to use bank cards in various places.” Such as hotels, airports, tourist attractions and shopping areas, they can also choose to scan a QR code or use cash to make payments.”

“Local payment platforms and companies have worked together to simplify the process through which incoming foreign tourists register for China’s payment applications,” Sun said, noting that “all consumption sites are obligated to accept Chinese currency in cash.”

He stated, “We are working to improve every step of the inbound tourism process and simplify procedures from visa applications to flight arrangements, hotel check-in, shopping and sightseeing,” pointing out that “with the implementation of these measures, foreign tourists visiting China will enjoy the same level of comfort in China.” Accommodation, transportation and shopping like local tourists.
