The highly anticipated scrolling fighting RPG, Towerborne, is set to leave Early Access and officially release on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 on February 26, 2026. Developed by Stoic and published by Xbox Game Studios, the game will be available for $24.99 as a standard edition and $29.99 for a Deluxe Edition, and will also be included with Xbox Game Pass.
From Early Access to Full Release
Towerborne initially entered Early Access on PC via Steam on September 10, 2024. A Game Preview version followed on April 29, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S and PC through the Microsoft Store. The PlayStation 5 version was announced concurrently with the Xbox release. This extended period of testing has allowed the developers to refine the game based on player feedback, culminating in the upcoming 1.0 release.
What’s New in Version 1.0?
The launch of version 1.0 brings a wealth of new content and improvements. According to a company release, the story has been fully updated and completed, featuring a compelling narrative arc with a central antagonist, engaging side missions, and a completely overhauled Bounty Board system.
Visually, Towerborne has undergone significant revisions. Players can expect to encounter two new bosses, including a formidable final boss, alongside new lieutenants and Umbra enemies.
A completely new difficulty system has been implemented, offering a challenging experience for players of all skill levels. A particularly brutal difficulty setting has been added, described as being “for those who love breaking controllers and swearing at the screen.” The game world itself has been expanded with a new coastal biome, and players will have access to new equipment and abilities.
Furthermore, a new Forge system allows for extensive customization, enabling players to modify, upgrade, and adjust the statistics of their gear. Developers have also promised numerous quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and the addition of new songs to the soundtrack composed by Austin Wintory. Notably, all cosmetic items will now be obtainable through gameplay, eliminating the need for cosmetic purchases.
A Unique Blend of Genres
Towerborne distinguishes itself as a scrolling fighting game infused with role-playing elements. Originally previewed as an MMO fighting game, the title from the studio behind The Banner Saga offers a unique experience for PC and Xbox players. The developers have focused on creating a dynamic and engaging combat system within a richly detailed world.
The release of Towerborne on February 26, 2026, marks a significant moment for fans of the genre and promises a compelling experience for both newcomers and veterans alike.
