The Taj Mahal in Frankfurt has been serving dishes that have their origins in India for thirty years. The restaurant on Schweizer Straße is a veteran among the ethnic restaurants in the Main metropolis.

Tiffin in India means containers stacked on top of each other and connected with a belt or clip, in which many office workers get their lunch, prepared by the family or someone who does it for money. Messengers, who travel by bicycle and by public transport, collect and deliver the cans. The film “Lunchbox” by director Ritesh Batra tells of this system and spins a romantic story around it, in which spices and their smell play an important role. Indian-style lunch can also be had in Frankfurt, in a lovely restaurant in Sachsenhausen that has been attracting guests for a long time. You can eat well there and, on days when everything is right, even excellent.

The “Taj Mahal” on Schweizer Strasse, which opened in 1991, is a veteran among the ethnic restaurants in the Main metropolis. Three years ago, the owners, who also run a business with an almost identical menu on Kaiserstraße in the Bahnhofsviertel, gave the previously rather dark bar an all-round visual makeover, which now makes it appear brighter and chic. The response was always great and still is today, and rightly so.
