Iconic BR Class 313/2 Train Now Available in Train Sim World 2
A classic of British rail travel, the BR Class 313/2 electric multiple unit (EMU), is now available to experience virtually in Train Sim World 2, bringing a piece of South Coast railway history to life. Players will need to own the Train Sim World 2: East Coastway route to utilize this add-on.
The arrival of the Class 313 represents more than just a new vehicle for simulation enthusiasts; it’s a celebration of enduring engineering and a testament to the longevity of a beloved train.
A Step-Change in Suburban Rail
Between 1976 and 1977, a total of 64 Class 313 EMUs were introduced, fundamentally altering suburban and commuter services across Britain. These trains were designed to increase capacity and improve performance, addressing the growing demands of passengers traveling to and from major cities. “The 313s brought a step-change in capacity and performance,” a railway historian noted.
Initially deployed on North London Line duties, the fleet underwent a significant chapter in 2010. Nineteen units were selected for refurbishment and transferred to Southern, where they continue to operate today.
Serving the South Coast
These refurbished units now primarily serve the picturesque routes along the South Coast of England. Passengers can find them operating Lewes shuttles and services to Seaford, with peak-hour trains extending as far as Eastbourne. The Class 313’s adaptability has allowed it to remain a vital component of the Southern network for over four decades.
Despite their age, the 313s hold a unique distinction: as of 2021, they were the oldest EMUs still in active service in Britain. This remarkable longevity speaks volumes about the quality of their original design and the effectiveness of ongoing maintenance.
A Virtual Experience of a Railway Icon
The distinctive design of the Class 313 is instantly recognizable to rail enthusiasts and commuters alike. Now, thanks to Train Sim World 2, players can experience the thrill of operating this iconic train firsthand. The add-on allows users to recreate real-world scenarios and appreciate the nuances of driving a train that has become synonymous with the South Coast railway.
“Still standing strong and serving proud, the design of the 313 is unmistakable,” according to a company release. The virtual recreation promises an authentic and immersive experience for both seasoned train simulation veterans and newcomers to the hobby.
